Dad was born in Dundee Scotland but spent his formative years and young adulthood in Glasgow where he was raised by his grandmother and grandfather. He learned many lessons from his grandfather, especially to “Read Between the Lines,” something he did throughout his life. Glasgow is also where he met the love of his life and Mother to his 3 children, Margaret Robertson.
Dad served his country travelling to Malaysia as a peacekeeper, a two-year journey, and an experience he talked about until his dying days. This was a life changing experience, mapping the course of his life for him. Dad was always looking forward, challenging himself to do better, to learn more and to educate himself, which brought him to Winnipeg, Canada in 1967 where again he educated himself in becoming an Aerospace Engineer. His commitment to his fellow workers was a lifelong passion, fighting for the average man. He was proud of his accomplishments and the battles he won during his years with CAIMAW.
Dad was somewhat of an entrepreneur, dabbling in hair salons and house flipping, more self-taught endeavors he was proud of.
After his retirement at age 65, Dad enjoyed his time on the West coast, travelling, reconnecting with family, building anything, fixing everything and growing tomatoes. He loved a day at the beach with his fur buddy Charlie Boy and a good cup of tea!
His family was important to him. His grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed any time spent, even if playing scrabble online.
Dad spent the past 7 years living independently in North Vancouver, but he was not alone. His daughter, Elaine always had his hand giving him the confidence to still pursue his dreams.
Dad wanted to thank the ladies he called “Angels” for the kindness they showed him over the past few years.
Dad will be missed by his family and friends. He will not be forgotten. Forever young dad, forever young!
Rest in Peace.
