15th June 1930 - 22nd April 2018
John was a true European gentleman. He was born in Prague Czechoslovakia on June 15th 1930 and for his early years had a happy childhood. This was to change in 1939 with Nazi occupation. In 1947 he went to England to study and by 1948 communism had taken over his country and it would be 43 years before he returned.
He came to Canada on June 20th 1952 and worked in Ajax and Toronto before coming to Vancouver and
Joining Canadian Pacific Airlines in 1959 where he worked as a payload control agent, reservations supervisor, and finally a passenger agent at YVR, for 27 years. After retirement John joined Pavlik Specialized Tours with wife Janet in Deep Cove for 20 years. John and Janet travelled the world on business and pleasure and he loved cruising. In 1984 the family completed a trip around the world.
A member of Mount Seymour Lions for 46 years he was a past president and cabinet secretary and was awarded life membership in Lions International. His community activities and friendships lasted a lifetime. He loved Deep Cove where they have lived for 48 yrs. In 2006 they completed their dream retirement home on the site of their original travel business in Deep Cove.
Membership in Elder College attending What’s News was a bonus in the last 3 years and many new friends were made. Enjoying his computer, writing his life story, reading, watching soccer and tennis
Enjoying his beer and keeping up with friends worldwide were important for him.
Married to Janet for 52 years he leaves behind his beloved Canadian family, daughter Misha Wilson
(Craig) grandchildren Brian and Teah. Son Paul Gibbons Pavlik (Karyn) and grandson Alistair. Sister
Majka Janousek, niece Vera and nephew George As well as relatives in Ottawa, Prague and Holland.
Funeral service at St Pius X Church, 1150 Mount Seymour Road, North Vancouver B.C .V7G 1R6
Saturday May 5th 2018 at 11.00am reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers he requested a donation to The Cancer Society or The North Shore Hospice.
