It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandma, Joan. While sudden, she was blessed to be surrounded by her loving family in her last days. Joan was born in Calgary, daughter of Thomas and Stella Hooks. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Peter Tynan (2007), and leaves behind three loving sons Iain (Brenda), Chris (Tanya), Alan (Leigh) and grandchildren Presley, Kirstin, Max, Amy, Stephanie and Ben. Joan graduated from York House School in 1955 and met Peter through his schooling at St. Georges. Joan and Peter raised their three boys in Kerrisdale and enjoyed watching rugby, soccer and cricket matches happily participating in the boys' lives. Joan and Peter loved entertaining and were always ready for spontaneous dinners and lively conversation with friends. Following Peter's passing, Joan moved to North Vancouver to be closer to family. She was often seen driving around the North Shore in her red convertible bug, enjoying Tuesday lunch at Chez Michel or appreciating performances of the Vancouver Symphony. In 2017, Joan moved to Amica in Edgemont Village, where she rediscovered her zest for life. Joan made many friends, was a frequent winner at bingo and cemented herself in the Amica community, holding court as she sat on the chesterfield by the fire. We will be comforted by the memory of "Joansie's" radiant smile, wonderful sense of humour and the sparkle in her eye; the fact of the matter is she will be sorely missed. A special thank you to Brian and his amazing team at Amica for their loving care of Mom. A private family memorial will be followed by a celebration of life on June 1, 2 p.m. onwards. No flowers by request.
