John slipped away peacefully March 8, 2024 at St. Paul’s hospital of pneumonia and related complications. JP loved to sing and write and above all socialize and laugh at life and himself. He was predeceased by his parents Jack (1979) and Irene (2008) and is survived by his four older brothers Joe, Tom, Bill and Don. The family moved to Vancouver the year JP was born, then to Kelowna 5 years later, and by grade eleven JP boarded at Vancouver College for his final high school years. After high school he attended 2 years of seminary school in Saskatchewan. Despite being burdened by a psychiatric condition he accomplished a great deal: He wrote for Cannabis Culture magazine, appeared frequently on POT TV as FLASH Gordon and ran for 2 years for the BC Marijuana Party. Along with good friend, John Hatful, JP was a founder of Unity Housing, formed over 20 years ago to provide affordable housing for individuals with mental health diagnosis and Unity is still going strong.
By 2008 JP was admitted to long term Care at Adanac Park Lodge in Vancouver where he papered the walls with his poems and rarely missed a choir session. We are very grateful for the dedication and kindness of the staff of Adanac over the years.
In loving memory and celebration of our friend, uncle, and brother John Patrick Gordon, we invite you to join us on April 6, 2024 for eulogies and reflection at Boal Chapel in North Vancouver (10:00 AM - 11:30AM).
