John Douglas Hamilton
January 20, 1927 – April 25, 2018
HAMILTON, Dr John Douglas With great sadness we announce that Jack Hamilton passed away peacefully at home on the evening of April 25th, 2018 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his son Geoffrey in 1982. He will be deeply missed by Amerlys, his loving wife of 62 years, his sons John (Lynda) and George, grandchildren Aidan and Rowan, as well as siblings Dorothy, George (Melanie), Betty, brother-in-law Wayne (Louise) and many nieces and nephews. Jack was born in Vancouver, attended Lord Byng Secondary, UBC Arts, and graduated in the first class of Medicine at UBC in 1954. Jack met Amerlys at VGH and their fate was sealed. They moved to North Vancouver and opened a medical practice in Edgemont Village where Jack saw his patients for 47 years. For many years Jack volunteered his time within his professional associations and was recognized for his contributions both provincially and nationally. He was committed to his work and treated all with kindness, compassion and respect. Jack had an adventurous spirit. He loved spending time in the mountains and on the ocean with family and friends. In his later years he and Amerlys travelled the world. Jack remained curious to the end. Surrounded by his diverse library of books and journals he never stopped learning. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 10th at 10 AM at Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers please take a moment to raise your glass in a toast to Jack.
