Jon Douglas Riecken

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear brother, Jon Douglas Riecken, who passed away on Monday July 27, 2026 at the age of 69 in North Vancouver, BC.

Jon grew up in West Vancouver and attended Gleneagles Elementary School and West Van High, graduating in 1975. Right from a young age, Jon was a car guy. As a toddler he had his hands on the steering wheel of our dad's car pretending to drive. His keen interest in cars continued to expand as he entered teenhood when he custom built his own go-cart complete with a functioning steering wheel and braking system.

Before Jon turned 16, he bought his first car modifying it to tuner standards. By the time Jon entered BCIT to study business, he was the only student driving a Jaguar E-type convertible. His extensive restoration of this car helped hone his skills and desire for his future auto body career. Jon further crafted his automotive skills in the industry, managing at No. 1 Collision. In the early 80's he cofounded Burrard Autostrasse Collision.

Over the next 35 years at Burrard Autostrasse, Jon, with his caring demeanour, dependability, and attention to detail became well known in the Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW industry. Always in good humour and ready with a smile and witty comment, he was a friend and supporter of the sports car community. Jon was known as the go-to guy if you needed advice.

Generous and gregarious, Jon was a fun person to be around. He enjoyed his wine club buddies and his motorcycle friends. With his contagious sense of humour, his engaging personality, and sense of style, Jon was a pleasure.

Jon survived by his brother, Robert Riecken and sister, Nancy Riecken. He is also survived by his three nephews, Steven (Zuly), Dani (Jess), and AJ, and by his great niece, Lisa.

We would like to thank the many people who cared so well for our brother in the last few years, in particular, his amazing private caregivers. Also, to the staff at Parkview Residence and Berkley Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society or to the Union Gospel Mission which was one of Jon's personal charities.

A Celebration of Jon's Life is on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 2-5pm at Browns Socialhouse (QE Theatre), Vancouver.
