

José “Pépé” Manuel Fraguas died peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital on March 22, 2025 in Vancouver, BC at the age of 80.
José is survived by his children, Olivia and Vanessa of Vancouver, BC. and his extended family, both in Canada and Spain. José was born on December 26, 1944 in Madrid, Spain to José (sr.) and Caridad. He came to Canada as a young adult and eventually met his late wife, Rhonda, after moving to Vancouver, they married in 1988. José worked as a Civil Designer for much of his life and was able to travel for work. José and Rhonda welcomed two children into their lives. José is remembered as generous, fun, charming, and adventurous who encouraged all to pursue their goals and always be themselves.
José was an accomplished soccer player, track and field athlete, soccer referee and often offered training advice, coaching skills, and scheduling tournaments. He was a generous, dedicated individual who loved adventure and who was passionate about being outside and experiencing the vastness of the Canadian wilderness.
A celebration of life and reception is scheduled for Monday, April 7th 10am at Boal Chapel and Memorial Gardens. Family and close friends are welcome to attend and celebrate José’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to BC Parks, Canadian Wildlife Federation or BC Soccer Association.
