Sorry to find out that you have taken off on a long sail, Karl.  We have fond memories of cruising and of work parties at DCYC.

My heart goes out to the entire Hansen clan. You embraced my brother as if he were a part of your family, and I know he feels your sorrow as if he were kin. Our families are forever bound by your friendship. Even though our Mom is quite fragile these days, hearing of your loss caused her to be attentive and concerned for all of you.  She clearly remembers how important you have been to Matt and sends her condolences.
Karl was an ever present and formative part of Matt's life, and for this I thank you.  As for how you ever got that keg on the roof...
When our Dad passed away, a friend sent me the following quote from Victor Hugo, and it helped.  I hope it helps you -
"Have courage for the great sorrows of life, and patience for the small ones. When you have laboriously accomplished your daily tasks, go to sleep in peace. God is awake."
Peace be with you.

Karl was like a 2nd father to me,and is missed already and will be forever. He taught me to chess, how to appreciate pickled herring ( of which he was a king ) and how and why to appreciate the joys of sailing, amongst many other life skills.
He brought joy to us all in wilds of Eastern North Vancouver, and was a live long friend of my wife and I.
Hoisting a glass to his honor this weekend.
