It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lijerka Poljak Rešković on October 11, 2026, in North Vancouver, British Columbia, at the age of 87.
Born in Split, Croatia, to Ante and Antonija Poljak, she spent her early childhood on the Dalmatian coast before moving to Zagreb during the Second World War. It was there many years later that she met her husband, Stanko Reskovich, with whom she would share a lifetime of adventure and new beginnings.
Together, they built a home and business in Dalmatia before moving to Germany, where they established several successful businesses, including a restaurant. After returning to Croatia for a few years in the late 1970s, they immigrated to Canada in 1980, settling in North Vancouver.
Their home became a gathering place for family and friends, filled with lively conversation, laughter, and memorable parties. They enjoyed entertaining and sharing good times with those around them.
Retiring early, they embraced the opportunity to travel extensively, spending many happy years enjoying extended stays in Mexico and at their second home on the picturesque island of Brač, Croatia.
Beautiful and gracious, with a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humour, Lijerka was a multilingual woman who moved easily between different languages and cultures. She brought warmth, charm, and a lively spirit to those around her.
In her later years, she continued to make her home in North Vancouver, close to her daughter, Koraljka.
Predeceased by her husband, Stanko, and her brother, Krunoslav Poljak, Lijerka is survived by her daughter, Koraljka, Stanko’s son, Milton, and grandchildren Emily, Marina and Celine.
Lijerka will be deeply missed by her family and friends. To her daughter, she was a source of unconditional love and an irreplaceable presence in her life. Her strength, warmth, and remarkable spirit will be remembered with affection, and the memories of a life so fully lived will be treasured for years to come.
