It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lois Sue Kuramoto of North Vancouver, beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Lois passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the age of 66.
Lois was born in Vancouver, BC, on March 30, 1959, to Tomiyuki and Meiko Kuramoto. She spent her early childhood at Pacific Coast Camp in Steveston before the family moved to Richmond when Lois was eight. She attended Austin Harris and Cook Elementary schools, R.C. Palmer Junior Secondary, and graduated from Richmond High School in 1977.
Her first job was at the local Pizza Hut, where she was none too pleased and grumbled colorfully after being let go for serving the wrong pizza on her very first shift. Lois moved on to work at Taco Bell and as a bank teller at Canada Trust. However, it was her 37-year career at ICBC, where she started in the mail room and worked her way up to become a Claims Adjuster, that brought her a lifetime of friendships and a true sense of family.
Lois generously gave her time to many volunteer efforts over the years, including Five Peaks running races, the North Shore Triathlon, and Parkgate Community Centre Wednesday Meal lunches. But the volunteer work closest to her heart was with the Variety Club. She had a deep love for children and proudly supported the Variety Club Telethon for many years, finding great joy and fulfillment in contributing to a cause that made a real difference in the lives of children.
Outside of work, Lois was known for her love of spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed many happy hours drinking with her colleagues and close circle, and was especially fond of her nieces and nephews, who brought her great joy. Lois participated in half-marathon runs, and one of her proudest achievements was completing the challenging 25 km Half Knacker trail race on the Baden Powell Trail, from Grouse Mountain to D
Lois is survived by her sister Joy and brothers Stan, Harv, Doug, Ken, Gary, and Rick. She is also deeply loved by her nieces and nephews, grand-nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins, and aunts Nancy Griffin and Betty Kadonaga. Lois leaves behind her beloved nieces, Carly and Andrea, who were like daughters to her.
Lois was also a proud supporter of her grand-nephews David and Mathieu, driving them to soccer practice and cheering them on at their games. She enjoyed many treasured moments with Gary, Judy, Thomas, Ashley, Claire, Mitchell and Tamanna during their annual trips to Lake Cowichan.
Lois deeply valued the friendships that brought joy and meaning to her life. Her lifelong friend Jayne remained a loyal and unwavering friend throughout her life, and she was lovingly known as Auntie Lo to Keileigh, Seanne, and Chris. Her extended chosen family included dear friend Jody and her children, Tanner and Lindsay, to whom she was also Auntie Lo. Lois also created lasting memories with Gail and Al—enjoying meals together and snowshoeing adventures—and shared a 26-year bond with her good friend Barb and partner Serge. She was blessed with many treasured friends—too many to name—each holding a special place in her heart. Their enduring presence was a testament to her loyalty, warmth, and the lasting impact she had on those around her.
Lois was predeceased by her parents and her sister Vivian Yip.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lions Gate Hospital.
