Moira Barnetson was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Born on August 9th, 1935, in Glasgow, Scotland, Moira lived a life full of adventure and love until she passed away peacefully on April 7th, 2023, at the age of 87 in North Vancouver, BC.
Moira was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She emigrated to Canada in 1960, the first of her family to do so, and built a rich and fulfilling life. She was predeceased by her husband Cameron in 2001, her mother Margaret in 1992, her father Duncan in 1971, her brother Gordon in 2022, and her sister Doris in 2022.
Moira loved spending time with her family and was an enthusiastic traveler. She was always up for an adventure and went on many trips with friends and family to destinations all over the world. Moira's three children and six grandchildren brought her tremendous joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and her failing health, Moira was unable to meet her two great-grandchildren.
Moira was an accomplished nurse and spent over 20 years working in nursing education at BCIT. She was also a dedicated community volunteer, coaching field hockey and serving as an early leader in the growth of girls' soccer in BC. She was the first female President of BC Youth Soccer and was deeply involved in the sport for many years.
Moira was a kind, empathetic, and courageous person, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on through those whose lives she touched, and she will be remembered fondly for her delightful accent, wee phrases, and her unwavering commitment to her family and community.
A celebration of Moira's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Moira's name to the Alzheimer Society of BC. Rest in peace hen, and know that you will be missed dearly.
