Patsy (Pat) Louise Elliott, 93, of Bowen Island and North Vancouver, passed peacefully with family members by her side at Lions Gate Hospital on June 30, 2024.
Pat was born in Vancouver to Joe and Louise Conrad on December 15, 1930. She attended Edith Cavell Elementary School, King Edward High School, and graduated from VGH Nursing in the Class of 1952—a time that fostered many reunions and lifelong friendships. Later in the 1970s, she graduated from Capilano College with a Diploma in Fine Arts.
Pat was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, in 2012 after 59 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of five boys, Mark (Sylvia), Brock (Leona), Ross (Dolores), Guy (Kathy), Kent (Carole), and her daughter, Jan. Granny Pat, as she is affectionately known, is also survived by her 15 adoring grandchildren and their spouses, 18 great-grandchildren, sister Jolyne and her family, and by her overseas family in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Pat and Gordon shared a rich life together, living in various places including Vancouver, Kamloops, West Vancouver, Schomberg, Ontario, and Bowen Island. Pat stood by Gordon’s side on every step of their journey and was a constant source of support through his long and distinguished career. Pat's recent years were spent at Cedar Springs in North Vancouver. Pat was a beacon of kindness and warmth in every community she was part of.
Longtime residents of Bowen Island, Pat and Gordon's home, and the Elliott’s Donkey Farm, was beloved by many. Pat—a creative at heart—was an active member of the arts community and fostered countless friendships on island. She was an ambitious artist, trying her hand at watercolour, weaving, pottery, macrame, quilting, fibre arts, and much more, all while raising six children. She was an excellent cook and the consummate host—
never stressing over holiday dinner occasions for 25 or more—who was famous for her cookies and cakes.
Born in a different era, her life was a testament to her strength, both in character and in action. Pat was an avid skier in her day, teaching the sport to all of her children. She was always on the move, always doing, always creating, filling every moment with purpose. Her generous spirit was evident with friends and strangers alike, who were always welcomed with open arms. Pat had a knack for making everyone feel special and loved. Pat's legacy of kindness will continue to inspire and influence everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her vibrance and warm heart will be deeply missed. A celebration of her extraordinary life will be held at Seymour Golf and Country Club on Thursday August 1, 2024, at 2pm. The family appreciates the condolences but declines flowers and donations.
