It gives me great sadness to announce the passing of Paul Eric Olufson. A devoted father, brother, Papa and friend with a generous heart that will be missed dearly by everyone who had the privilege to know him. Paul passed away peacefully, albeit somewhat unexpectedly at the age of 64 in Vancouver General Hospital on Oct 21, 2021.
He was born in North Vancouver on May 10, 1957 to Pauline and Herman Olufson. His memory will be cherished by his daughter Jennifer, grandson Rowan, his brother Drew and his family including wife Kris and son Duncan, as well as by his partner Elisabeth and her family.
In losing him we lost a wonderfully compassionate spirit that the world won't be the same without. Paul was resourceful and stubborn (some would argue to a fault). He loved and lived bountifully, never taking for granted the second chance he got after a traumatic head injury nearly took his life as a teenager. People were easily drawn to his light-hearted and humorous nature, and once his trust was earned he was a loyal friend. He gave nothing but his best to others, doing even the smallest of things with lots of love and care. He always had the time and plenty of patience when it came to helping or teaching others. He was truly dedicated to those he loved and all of these qualities made him an exceptional father.
Growing up in North Van Paul would develop a lifelong love of the sea. Early on he worked at a marina, leaving that to build a career climbing the ranks at a wholesale food products supplier, excelling in sales and taking with him a lasting love of sharing good food. He went back to the sea, log salvaging, before re-entering the trades as an overhead door technician.
The year 2000 saw him move to Maple Ridge to create a home for his daughter, exchange students and friends. True to his nature he became an enthusiastic and valued volunteer at the local Air Cadet squadron. It was here that he would live out the rest of his time as the proprietor of his own business, one of the highest rated in the region, and meet his life partner, with whom he shared many fun-filled adventures in their time together .
Paul, Dad, Brother, Papa, you will be missed.
