Peter Frederick Morse, 83, of North Vancouver, passed away peacefully at the North Shore Hospice on December 7, 2025.
Peter was born in September 1942 to Dr. Philip Warren Morse and Hilda Esme Morse in Midhurst, England and will be greatly missed by many.
Peter will be remembered for his sharp mind and quick wit. After graduating from the University of British Columbia in 1964, he moved to Montreal to start his first full-time job on the journey to becoming an actuary. He became a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. Peter returned to Vancouver with his family in the late 1970s and began a distinguished career providing pension consulting services primarily with Towers Perrin (now Willis Towers Watson) in Vancouver, retiring in the early 2000s. He was also a keen contributor to the profession, chairing or participating on many CIA committees, and was elected CIA President in 1998-99, serving the profession with distinction.
When Peter was not working, he was a skillful and accomplished golfer, like his father before him, becoming captain of the Magee Secondary School golf team which won championships in 1959 and 1960. Peter maintained an impressive handicap for many years and, combined with his love of travelling, played many prestigious golf courses around the world (and, yes, he maintained a list of the courses he played). Peter later became a member of the West Point Golf Club in 2008. Peter volunteered many hours over a 25-year period coaching youth baseball with the Forest Hills Little League. He was also a competitive contract bridge player, becoming president of the Vancouver Unit of the American Contract Bridge League for 11 years, and travelling to numerous regional and international tournaments, amassing many Masterpoints. He was an avid Vancouver Canucks fan, with fond memories of the big playoff runs of 1982, 1994 and 2011.
Peter is survived by his partner, Kathryn Shannon, and her daughter, Jen Shannon, his children Philip (Margaret) Morse, Ingrid Morse, and Erica Morse, and their mother, Anita Morse, his granddaughters Lauren Morse (Kenzie Timmons), Jaclyn (Craig) Maltais and Kristen Morse, his brother John (Maria) Morse, and his nephew Chris Morse (Jen McParland).
Peter’s family is hosting a Celebration of Life in his honour at the Capilano Golf and Country Club (420 Southborough Drive, West Vancouver, BC) in the McKinnon Room on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm (business casual dress required). Peter will be laid to rest at the Ocean View Funeral Home & Burial Park in Burnaby, BC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, and/or the North Shore Hospice.
