Bob was born in Toronto, Ontario and, from a young age, he showed a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. Beginning at age 12, his very first job was delivering prescriptions by bicycle. After high school, he went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, a foundation that would support a lifetime of curiosity, problem-solving, and hands-on skill.
In 1964, Bob married his lifelong partner, Sheryl, beginning a marriage that spanned 62 years. Together they raised two adoring children, Jennifer and Julie, and built a life rooted in love, laughter, and mutual support.
In 1976, after falling in love with the West Coast, Bob moved with his young family to Vancouver. He worked across a variety of industries, always bringing dedication and integrity to everything he did. Retirement didn’t slow him down—instead, it marked the beginning of what Bob loved most. He founded “Odd Job Bob”, a small business through which he helped people all over the Lower Mainland with home renovations and countless household repairs. Bob loved working with his hands, and his depth of knowledge and practical skill seemed limitless. Over more than 20 years, he formed close and lasting relationships with many of his clients, who came to know him not just as a tradesman, but as a trusted friend.
Bob’s smile could light up a room. He was charming, personable, and always ready to help in any way he could. He found joy in nature—especially birdwatching and fishing—and treasured the annual fishing trips with his longtime friends, the Puddle Dumpers, a group he shared more than 20 years of memories with. Time spent in Okanagan Falls with family were among his greatest joys.
Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, daughter and son-in-law, granddaughter, brother and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the twins. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to lend a hand.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or Kinsmen Foundation of BC.
