Nonna Rose was predeceased by her husband Alex in 1996 and is survived by her daughter Lillian Eastlake-Smith(Glen), her son Fred Kozier(Marifi), grandson Micah Kozier, 2 granddaughters Sarah Eastlake-Smith and Melissa Hammond(Matthew), and 3 great grandchildren Louise, James and Alex Hammond.
Nonna Rose spent the first 22 years of her life in Casapulla Italy where she worked with her father Francesco until she married Alex Kozier, immigrated to Canada and eventually settled into their first house on West 13th Avenue in Vancouver in the spring of 1958. After 15 years of housewife duties, Rose announced she was going back to work and landed a position teaching home economics at Sir Charles Tupper High School where she could share her great cooking skills with students and teachers. After 20 years, Rose retired from the VSB in 1997 one year after her husband Alex passed away. During her well-deserved retirement, Nonna Rose continued to enjoy cooking Italian food and having as many people over to the house as possible.
Nonna Rose spent the last year of her life at Youville Residence in Vancouver. Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nursing staff, dieticians and care aides for their wonderful care and attention they provided Nonna Rose in her final days.
Rose passed into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus surrounded by her son Fred, daughter-in-law Marifi and Grandson Micah.
We love you and miss you Nonna Rose.
A Catholic funeral service will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Parish Church in Vancouver at 1:00 pm May 20th and then final resting place at the Abbey Mausoleum at Oceanview Burial Park in Burnaby.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia.
