Stephanie grew up in the Deep Cove area of North Vancouver, BC. She was in the last kindergarten class at Burrard View School and the first grade 1 class at Cove Cliff. She was social, right from the beginning, developing social circles even at a young age. She spent many summers with her cousins at horse camp in Water Valley, Alberta and loved riding horses. She was a member of the Girl Guides of Canada and participated in many events through them while she lived in North Vancouver.
She moved to Maple Ridge and attended Maple Ridge Secondary for a brief period.
Stephanie was fortunate to have 5 living great grandparents when she was born and to interact regularly with all of them. She was mature for her age and able to help out as her great grandparents aged.
Stephanie was always an animal lover. Chinchillas, Degus, horses, cats, dogs – and let’s not forget her attempt to populate the entire Deep Cove area with rabbits. Even recently she discovered a little nest of kittens under her trailer in Hope, and she bequeathed a feral kitten on quite a few family and friends.
Stephanie loved camping. The family camping trips took her to, among other places, Gower Point, Shuswap Lake, Birkenhead, Wells Gray, Mirror Lake, Haida Gwaii, Christina Lake, Adams Lake – and many local areas for fishing and sitting around the campfire.
Stephanie attended Expo 86 with her mom and almost got lost. In fact, there were several times that she detoured on her own causing panic. When she turned 21, Stephanie and her mom went to Las Vegas for some R&R, the first of a few visits.
She loved her daddy – she and her father were very close, often sharing jokes and stories and a smoke. Her father’s nickname for her was “Puddle Duck”. She spent a lot of time at the McLeod cabin near Belcarra, fishing and playing in the ocean. She followed him many times to Hope and after his death spent most of her time there.
Stephanie was one of the first people hired for the Port Mann Tolling - Treo. She was also the very last employee, spending over a year all by herself in the Treo building at the North end of the Port Mann. One of the benefits, however, was a chance to go to the very top of the new Port Mann and she gave us some amazing pictures from up there. She made many friends there & said it was the best job she ever had.
Stephanie was a champion of the underdog. She helped friends navigate many legal battles and made sure they all filed their taxes and got every credit to which they were entitled. She had a heart of gold caring for people in a kind and compassionate way.
