Sue first came to Canada in the early 1950s. He spent the first couple of years working in a limestone quarry, then later worked and learned about business operations in the restaurant and hospitality industry. He lived on the west coast of BC, in Texada Island, before finally settling in the Metro Vancouver area in 1969. As he was starting his life in Canada, he went back and forth between Canada and China, where he met Ma Lai Tou in Guangzhou. They married in 1967.
For Sue, life in Canada was full of opportunity, and he wanted to share that with his family. He became an entrepreneur and ran a few businesses throughout his career. He found most of his success in the restaurant and hospitality industry, which helped him provide a good life for his family. He had a passion for his work and enjoyed the customers that he saw everyday.
Sue was a member of the Gee’s Fraternal Society near Chinatown in Vancouver. He donated to the society, joined in many lunch and dinner gatherings, played mahjong, and enjoyed a few Lucky Lagers with his friends.
In his retirement years, Sue spent more time learning how to use the computer and understanding the stock market. He had some success investing in penny stocks. He liked going on solo walks and shopping expeditions. When at home, he spent time making big family brunches with mom and being a grandfather to his grandchildren.
Sue will be remembered as a hard-working and successful businessman and entrepreneur who was also a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Ma Lai and his four children and eight grandchildren: Wah (wife Wendy, daughters Wyetta and Wanita); Julie (husband Calvin and son Zach); Qun (wife Cathy, daughters Samantha and Megan); and Devan (daughters Jansen, Avery, and Violet).
