It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Tina Magradze, a beloved mother, wife, and friend, whose strength, kindness, and remarkable spirit touched the lives of so many.
Tina was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, when the country was still part of the Soviet Union. Growing up in a society shaped by fear, uncertainty, and deception, Tina developed an unbreakable spirit and a fantastic sense of humour that would remain with her throughout her life. She was a force to be reckoned with, a fiercely loyal friend, and above all, an incredibly kind person. Ambitious and career-driven, Tina never backed down in the face of adversity. She approached life with determination, resilience, and an unwavering belief in standing up for herself and the people she loved.
Never one to shy away from taking the harder path, Tina made the life-changing decision to immigrate to Canada in 2010 with her husband, David, and daughter, Katie. Like many immigrant families, theirs faced challenges and sacrifices that few could fully understand. Eventually, David returned to Georgia, while Tina and Katie remained in North Vancouver, determined to build a new life.
In choosing this path, Tina left behind a successful career, the familiarity of her home, and much of the life she had worked so hard to build. She started over in a new country, not because it was easy, but because she wanted her daughter to have opportunities, a brighter future, and a life filled with possibilities. It was perhaps one of the greatest expressions of her love: sacrificing so much of what she had built so that her daughter could build something of her own.
In 2019, Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer. True to her nature, she faced the diagnosis with tremendous courage and determination. She overcame the disease and went on to experience seven more years of life, love, laughter, and cherished memories. During those years, she watched her daughter pursue a master's degree, build a life of her own, and get married. These were precious milestones, and having her mother there to witness them will forever be among Katie's greatest gifts.
Sadly, the cancer returned in 2025. While the illness gradually weakened Tina physically, it never diminished the strength of her spirit or the person she had always been. Even in the most difficult moments, she remained Tina: strong-willed, deeply loved, and entirely herself.
Throughout her life, Tina had a remarkable ability to build friendships and communities wherever she went. She brought people together through her warmth, humour, generosity, and genuine care for others. In the final months of her life, she was surrounded by the very thing she had given so freely to the world: love. Friends and family stood by her, a reflection of the meaningful relationships she had nurtured throughout her life.
Tina's passing leaves an immeasurable emptiness, particularly in the life of her daughter, Katie, whose world was shaped by her mother's love, sacrifices, and strength. There are no words that can fully capture the loss of a mother, especially one who gave so much of herself so that her child could have a better life.
But Tina's life was so much more than her illness or the way it ended. It was a life defined by courage, laughter, friendship, determination, and an extraordinary capacity to love. Her legacy lives on in the people she touched, the friendships she built, and the daughter she raised.
We hope she can finally rest peacefully, knowing how deeply she was loved, how much she mattered, and how profoundly she will be missed.
Please join her family on October 24th at 2:00pm to celebrate her life and honor her.
