With sadness in our hearts, we share the news that Wendy Lee Martin (nee Exelby) passed away suddenly at Lions Gate Hospital on Sunday, August 4th, 2024, with her family by her side. We say goodbye to a loving spouse, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and good friend. She is survived by her husband Eric, and son Cody. Also, by her mother Esther, sisters Candace and Gerri, brother Kevin and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Plus, sister and brother-in-law’s. She is predeceased by her father Jim Exelby.
Wendy was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up in Surrey, British Columbia.
She loved Elvis Presley, heavy metal music, watching the Blue Jays play baseball and family camping trips. She was always thinking about others and enjoyed being a girl guide leader for many years. She loved travelling and went on many trips with her sisters, including Disneyland and Whistler.
Wendy and Eric met on the internet - her handle was “red roses” and his was “car guy”. They got to know each other and spent many hours chatting and sharing their likes and dislikes. Eric quickly discovered that Wendy was a very family oriented and down to earth person and there was an instant connection between them. They dated for about eight months and grew closer together. Eric asked Wendy to move in with him and she relocated to North Vancouver. The following year, Eric popped the question and asked Wendy to marry him on a camping trip at a small campground outside of Penticton. Cody arrived on May 22nd, 2003 and was lucky to attend and be a part of their wedding on September 13th, 2003.
Wendy enjoyed our family camping trips to the Okanagan, the USA and Hope. Her favourite memories were watching Cody play soccer and watching him grow and mature as a cub scout. She also attended many of Eric’s hockey games and car cruises. She loved talking with the other car club members and making new friends. In addition to gardening, Wendy loved to walk with Piper and had a passion for collecting Coca Cola and M&M memorabilia. Her favourite Christmas tradition was setting up her extensive Christmas village and meticulously placing the houses, people, and trees in just the right place. One of her favourite things to do this time of year was to purchase gifts for young girls and donate them to the Christmas Bureau demonstrating Wendy’s kind heart and love for others.
Wendy worked for Columbia Containers in the accounting department for 11 years and was well liked by her colleagues. Self care was important to Wendy and she loved taking Zumba classes and being active walking with Piper around the neighbourhood.
Those who knew Wendy knew she was a gentle soul who liked nothing more than puttering around in her garden for hours. She loved her flowers, dolphins, all animals and sitting down with a good book to read. She especially loved the family dog Piper and spending time with her family.
Please join the family for a celebration of life for Wendy on Sunday September 22nd 2024 at St. Catherine’s Anglican Church 1058 Ridgewood Drive, North Vancouver from 1:00-4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the SPCA.
