With sadness but with gratitude for a life well-lived and well-loved, our family announces the passing of Helen Jean Fantham (née Stinson) on August 3, 2020 just days before her 89th birthday. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond James in 2018 and her adored grandson Stefan Sikstrom (Melissa Lynch) in 2017. Filled with fond memories are daughter Judy (David Hillock), son Rick (Tina), and grand-children Matt Sikstrom (Mindy Mok), Kent Sikstrom, Ryan Fantham (Leanne), Steven Fantham (Roslyn Brent) and Mallory Fantham (Spencer Yuska). Helen delighted in her “Great-Grans,” Kaylin, Jett and Aeris Sikstrom and Carter Fantham. Helen was born in Omemee, Ontario, on August 13, 1931, the only child of Art and Winnifred Stinson. She married her dashing pilot Ray in 1953 and graduated with her “Permanent First-Class Certificate” for teaching in 1954. They led a nomadic life in the armed forces posted to 11 different places. The highlight for Helen was relocating to Takoradi, Ghana West Africa. That experience was transformative for a small-town girl and in later years many a conversation pivoted to her life in Ghana. It was not until mid-life that Helen discovered her true professional calling of running her own business, providing accounting services for lawyers in Ottawa. Helen and Ray retired to his hometown of Kingston in 1995 where they cultivated many lasting friendships particularly over bridge and in the community of Commodore’s Cove. Family was everything to Helen and through the years she hosted the clan at our beloved cottage on Bob’s Lake. Most recently Helen was cheerfully residing at Glynnwood Revera in Thornhill enjoying the camaraderie over bridge and a martini with green olives or red wine, with ice. Helen’s positive attitude towards life can be summed up by her final words after suffering a debilitating stroke: “I’m happy. I’m always happy, wherever I am.” Funeral services will be held at R.S. Kane on August 13, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation at https://www.heartandstroke.ca/
