Adrienne Lesley Spruill, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away on April 23, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Warren H. Spruill, and her daughter, Karen Lesley Stephenson. She is survived by her granddaughter Monica Lesley Stephenson, her niece-in-law Mary Ann Fitzgerald, and her nephew-in-law Herbert Lewis.
Adrienne was born to Edith and Les Darwin on September 27, 1939, in Liverpool, England. They moved to California after WWII when Adrienne was 8 years old. She forever mourned the loss of her British accent.
Adrienne and Warren married in 1961 and had their only child Karen in 1970. Not to be left out when her daughter went to college and her husband gained his second degree, Adrienne went back to college as an adult and earned her Bachelor of Science in 1990.
Adrienne loved wild animals. She was an enthusiastic member of the National Audubon Society for several years. She rescued countless birds of prey and snakes throughout her life.
Adrienne also loved to travel. She and Warren traveled to all seven continents, often by cruise. They documented their travels through a plethora of pictures, often with witty commentary.
She will be fondly remembered for her sharp wit, humor, and brutal honesty, not to mention her passion for BINGO and eye for interior design.
As per Adrienne’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to any of these charities Adrienne supported during her life: Doctors Without Borders, Project Hope, Feeding America, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
