

She was born May 2, 1956, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her mother, Roberta Moose Vaughan of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, G. Steven Goodson, and cherished son, Grant Evan Goodson, of Northport, Alabama; her parents, Donald and Tina Vaughan of Houston, Texas; her twin sister, Rebecca (David) Osterhout of Houston, Texas; her sisters, Kara Marks of Adrian, Michigan and Melinda Brown of Richmond, United Kingdom; stepsisters, Dr. Diana (Dr. Bill) Ellis of Brownwood, Texas and Julie (Alan) Jansen of Erie, Colorado; beloved nieces and nephews, Kyle Osterhout of Houston, Texas, Brittany (Luis) Sanchez of North Hills, California, Nathan and Chad Marks of Adrian, Michigan, Austin Brown of Chicago, Illinois, Alyson Brown of Richmond, United Kingdom, Emily Ellis of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Brett Ellis of Abilene, Texas, and Hannah Jansen of Erie, Colorado; her in-laws, Travis and Betty Goodson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Barbara was a proud graduate of Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She taught secondary English for several years in Bristow, Oklahoma and Tuscaloosa, Alabama before settling into her career as legal assistant. She was personal assistant to Steven W. Ford for 19 years. She loved reading, gardening, and helping others.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Five Points Baptist Church in Northport, Alabama with Rev. John Dickinson and Rev. Ben Jameson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends tonight, Jan. 23, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport. Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Jim A. Abernathy, Steven W. Ford, Roy Giles, Ron Henderson, Mack Hitt, and Tim Newby.
Honorary pallbearers are current and former employees of Ford & Abernathy, P.C., employees of Belk Co., her Sunday School class of Five Points Baptist Church, the Esther Sunday School class of Five Points Baptist Church, her Tuscaloosa News Forum friends, friends at the Lake Tuscaloosa Opry, doctors and staff of UAB Department of Gynecological Oncology, and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, or Hospice of West Alabama.
