

NORTHPORT – Ben Allen Mills, age 86, of Northport, died February 5, 2016, at Northport Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016, at Sunset Funeral Home with Alan Roggli and Ben Jameson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Monday, February 8, 2016, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hattie Mills; son, Mark Mills; and grandson, Robbie Powell.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Barton Mills; daughters, Beth Mills of Northport, Ala., Mitzi Almond (Skip) of Lexington, S.C., Nikki Watkins (Bobby) of Gainesville, Ga. and Kristi Acker (Stan) of Northport, Ala.; son, Rodney Mills of Northport, Ala.; sisters, Ruth Culpepper of Meridian, Miss. and Mary Huddleston of Bearden, Ark.; and grandchildren, Olivia Acker, Abby Francis Acker, Jon Mills, Randi Mills, Nancy Yates, Laney Yates, Ronnie Powell, Turner Almond, Preston Almond and Bryan Mills and Tia Mills.
Ben Mills was a native of Hale County, who lived in Northport the majority of his adult life. Ben loved time spent outdoors hunting, fishing and riding his tractor. He also enjoyed watching Alabama athletics in any form.
Known to many as a master gardener, Ben delighted in sharing his harvest with family and friends. He loved his church, his family and his many dear friends.
Two things brought Ben the most joy in his life; doing for others in need and attending every softball game his granddaughters' played. Ben will be greatly missed by many.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Watkins, Stan Acker, Steve Deavours, Jimmy Lunceford, Nick Davis and Ryan Gulledge.
Honorary pallbearers are Betty and James Hudson, Hilda Oswalt, Dr. George Miller, Carolyn Prewitt, members of Goat Ridge Hunting Club, friends of Cherokee Shores Subdivision and Five Points and Carrolls Creek church families.
