Bernice Brown

Bernice is survived by her children, Charlotte Worthy, Dale Brown, and Daryl Brown (Linda); sibling, James Brown of Pearl River, La.; grandchildren, Renee Howell, Camille Howell, Amy Sullivan, Jennifer Thomas, and R.J. Brown (Melanie); great-grandchildren, Chais Billings (Amanda), Brittany Richardson (Russ), Josh Brown, Tanner Sullivan, and Merrik and Millie Zelle Brown; and great-great-grandchildren, Keira and Noah Billings and Dean and Georgia Kate Richardson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Minnie Brown; husband, Ralph "Doc" Brown of Northport, Ala.; siblings, Nellie Peake of Northport, Ala., Ceburne Brown of Hoover, Ala., Tommie Morton of Northport, Ala. and Ganus Brown of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Bernice was known for her delicious food as she was an accomplished cook and baker. She often baked homemade cakes, fried chicken and pies for her family, church, and friends. She was a compassionate individual who loved her family, friends, and God and was known for her great sense of humor and hijinks. She was an avid gardener with a magical green thumb that allowed her to grow everything from plants and flowers to vegetables. She was an active and dedicated member of the Northwood Hills Baptist Church and its last living charter member. To her family, she passes on her legacy of loving kindness and dedication to God.

A funeral is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home with visitation one hour preceding. Graveside service will immediately follow. Brother George Shaddix will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bernice's life.

Pallbearers will be R.J. Brown, Chais Billings, Josh Brown, Tanner Sullivan, Russ Richardson, and Jermaine Long. Honorary Pallbearers will be Northwood Hills Baptist Church, Parks Sunday School Class, Debbie Mabray, Maxine Channell, Sara Brown, Annie Kemp, Mozell Smith, Verla Hamm, Dr. William Hill, Dr. James Robinson, Greg Hamrick, and Coty Wade.

The family would like to thank caregivers and staff at DCH Regional Medical Center and Hospice of West Alabama. A special thanks to Coty Wade, CRNP, Dr. Robinson, Dr. Hill, and Greg Hamrick, CRNP for their dedication, friendship and healthcare they provided to her over the years.
