He is survived by his loving wife, Robin Boyd; his mother, Barbara Palmer Boyd; a son, David Heath Boyd; the mother of his son, Marie Fair Boyd; aunt, Rosemary Cabiness; uncle, Hayse Boyd; first cousins, Jeff and Rodney Cabiness, Tara Boyd Thornhill, Cinda Boyd Perry, Denson Boyd and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Darran Earl Boyd, his father, Herman C. Boyd, Jr., his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Herman C. Boyd, Sr.
David was born July 24, 1958 in Northport, Alabama. He attended public schools in Northport and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School. He had the pleasure, or possibly the displeasure, of having his father as school principal when he was in junior high at Riverside Junior High School.
He was employed by Michelin Goodrich Tire Company for thirty-five years until his retirement.
David was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and touring in his motorhome. He made several hunting trips out of state where he hunted big game. He proudly displayed his trophies in his home.
David’s family moved to the Herman Boyd Sr. family farm on the Crabbe Road in the early 1970s shortly after Lake Tuscaloosa was created. He loved living at water’s edge.
David and his family attended Macedonia United Methodist Church near their home while growing up. It was there that he made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and joined the church.
David’s mother has born the sorrow of losing both of her children and her husband. Darran was killed in an automobile accident at age forty. Her husband died in 2010 of cancer. Now she has lost David. In the meantime, she battles her own issues of failing health. However, she is strong in her faith and knows that all things are in the hands of God who will give her the strength to “fight the good fight and finish the race strong.”
The family is deeply appreciative of the love, prayers and support friends and family have shown during this difficult time and will show in the coming days. Special thanks are given to Rose Mary Cabiness and to Jeff and Rodney Cabiness. Special friends include Andy Patton, Tony Gregg, Jerry Wright, Jimmy Smith, Jim Carnes, Dolan Davis, Annette and Larry Kennedy, Marion Dodson, Rod and Lisa Patton, members of Macedonia United Methodist Church, members of First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa and members of the Northport Hunting Club.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, Alabama, with Dr. Hayse Boyd officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 14837 Highway 69 North, Northport, AL 35475 or First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, 721 Greensboro Ave., Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
