

George Leonard, a Tuscaloosa native, was born on July 24, 1949. He was a Vietnam and Air Force veteran, known for his specialization in training military dogs. He later served as a police officer for the Tuscaloosa VA, retired, and went on to work as a dump truck driver until his final retirement. George was known for his love of Jesus, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as fast cars and Alabama football. He was a light to many and will be greatly missed.
George Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Mack Leonard; his mother, Louise Smalley Leonard; his sister, Patricia Barrett; his brother, Jerry Leonard; and his great-grandchildren, Khloe and Zoey Snipes.
George Leonard is survived by his brother, Larry Leonard (Kathy); his daughters, Tina Snipes and Stacy Burt; his grandchildren, Zachary Burt (Justine), Toni Kimbrell (Colton), Nikki Burt (Brad), and Joann Snipes; and his great-grandchildren, MaKena Kimbrell, Reed Kimbrell, Brayden Jackson, Wyatt Kimbrell, River Beard, Everleigh Teague, Jasper Burt, and Tate Kimbrell, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home (Northport) on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The family will receive visitors at 9:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Roger Lucas.
Pallbearers are Zachary Burt, Colton Kimbrell, Chad Leonard, Aaron Leonard, Jason Leonard, and Joe Howell. Honorary pallbearer will be Reed Kimbrell.
