Geraldine Buie Skipper

Geraldine Buie Skipper, age 88, of Tuscaloosa, died July 5, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Canterbury Chapel Epis-copal Church with the Rev. Marc Burnett officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Webb Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelia and Jesse Buie of Webb, and brother, James Lewis Buie of Dothan.

Survivors include her son, James Louis Dean Skipper (Susan) of Sylacauga; and grandchildren, Jenna Anne Moore and Stephen Lewis Skipper.

Ms. Skipper was a graduate of Columbia High School, the University of Alabama (B.S.N.), and Emory University (M.S.N.).

In 1985, Ms. Skipper was the recipient of the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award by the University of Alabama National Alumni Associa-tion. As a founding member of the Capstone College of Nursing, she was presented the Janet S. Autrey Distinguished Nursing Leader Award in 2007 for her vision and creativity in nursing practice and her commitment to excellence in nursing. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and the World Health Organization.

The family would like to thank Pine Valley Retirement Community for their love and support.
