

COKER – James “Jim” Hughes, age 75, of Coker, Ala., died April 25, 2017, at UAB. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at Five Points Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Jameson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens, Chapel of Memories, with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be two hours prior to service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Hughes; mother, Annie B. Hughes; and brothers, Manley Falls and Joe H. Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hughes; daughter, Janice Hughes of Paris, Texas; grandchildren, Jordan Hughes, Lauren Hughes and James Isaac Henderson; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Emmaly, Bailey Marie and Paxton.
Jim had a great personality and never met a stranger. He was always entertaining everyone and had a great knowledge of many things.
He had many passions. His many passions were for his family and friends, love of wood carvings, working on antique tractors and trucks and loved activities working for his church.
Through all of his illness, there were no gray areas in his life. He was always friendly, joking and smiling in the midst of pain and life struggles.
Pallbearers will be active Deacons of Five Points Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers are family and all friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Heart Association or Five Points Baptist Church.
