TUSCALOOSA – Jay W. Anderson, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died May 11, 2018, at his residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home with Ike Espy officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider directing. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Anderson; mother, Etha Anderson; brother, W. D. Anderson; and sister, Betty Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby H. Anderson; sons, Michael Anderson (Babs), Scott Anderson (Chireen) and Kent Anderson (Tina); sisters, Billie Helen Paul and Frances Boutwell; and grandchildren, Jay W. Anderson II, Joshua Anderson, Logan Strickland (Wesley) and Liza Anderson.
Jay was born in Jasper County, Mississippi on May 21, 1937. He attended Stringer Mississippi High School, Jones Junior College and Samford University and earned pharmacy degrees. He owned Medical Arts Pharmacy from 1968 until 2002. Jay was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa. He was a 33 degree Mason and Shriner.
Pallbearers will be Lambert Payne, Vance Cochran, Joel Cochran, Steven Pardue, Tony Anderson and Michael McKee.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe and Patty Sexton, Dr. Ron and Margie Phelps, Dan Shay, Griff Stanley, Van and Betty Cochran, Mike Henson, Walter Randle, Jim and Jade Preskitt, Wallace and Sue Lancaster and the staff of Seniors Prefer Home Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to First Baptist Church Second Hand Rose, First Baptist Church Builders for Christ or Hospice of West Alabama.
