Mary Ann "Nana" Jones

NORTHPORT - Mary Ann "Nana'' Jones, age 77, of Northport, Alabama, passed away on December 11, 2017 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Her memorial service will be at Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, in Northport on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 2 p.m. following a visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. Scott McQueen, chaplain at Hospice of West Alabama, will preside and Don Rakestraw, a graduate of the University of Alabama and now at Winthrop University, will recall precious memories.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her son, Howard Jones III; her parents, John and Margaret Bumbera; a sister, Irene Bumbera; and her Uncle Robert and Aunt Gizzella Biro.

Survivors include her spouse, Howard Jones of Northport: two daughters, Deborah Ann Brown of Attalla, Alabama and Sharise Lynn Prentice of Northport; a sister, Phyllis Brown of Crown Point, Indiana; and three grandchildren: Timothy Lee Skelton of Northport, Ashley Brown of Gadsden, Alabama and Lauren Ryan Prentice of Northport.

Mary Ann was kind, sweet, gentle, and fun-loving, always ready to give much more than she asked. December 22 would have marked her 55th wedding anniversary with Howard as well as the 60th celebration of their first date while in high school in Indiana. Not only were they devoted to each other, they were best friends. They liked each other as much as they loved each other.

Honorary pallbearers are the staff at Hospice of West Alabama.
