Robert “Bobby” Wayne Drummond, age 77, originally from Greene County Alabama and a longtime resident of Northport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at his home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday night, January 19, 2017 at Five Points Baptist Church.
Born in Eutaw, Alabama in 1939 to the late Jesse Cliffton and Ida Lee Drummond, he attended and graduated from Greene County High School in 1958.
On June 20, 1959, Bobby married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Mavis Joy Sellers, who precedes him in death. He was the iconic father of four of the luckiest children on the planet and the grandparent to six even luckier grandchildren.
Bobby worked at the Gulf States Paper Mill until its closure in 1978 and worked for about a year in Greene County on the construction of the new school. He retired from the North River Mine in Berry, Alabama in 1999 as a mining supervisor.
Bobby was an active and much loved member of Five Points Baptist Church in Northport for 48 years. He served as a deacon in the church and was also a Gideon.
Bobby was a very talented builder and was often praised for creating “something from nothing”. He found real joy in hard work and always managed to balance his work ethic with taking care of his family. Bobby loved to travel and to see and experience new things. More than anything, he enjoyed a good meal and the fellowship it often brought with fine friends and family. He was a comical man and brought great delight to those that knew him with this wit and his selfless nature.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Robby", Jr. and Donna Drummond of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Farrell Rieger of Rainbow City, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Mechelle and Joey Massey of Coker, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Pam Drummond of Northport; grandchildren, Katie and Rachel Drummond of Houston, Texas, Daisy and Henry J. of Rainbow City, Dax and Zane Massey of Coker and Leslie and Mitchell Drummond of Northport; his brothers, Tommy Drummond (Linda) of Tuscaloosa and Jerry Drummond of Eutaw; sisters, Jeanette Phillips of Tuscaloosa and Violet Clayton (Jack) of Moundville; sisters-in-law, Sonja Drummond and Martha Jean Sellers; and 22 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joy; his sister, Voncile; his brother, Donald “Duck”; his parents, Jesse and Ida Lee; his sister-in-law, Sadie Robinson; his brothers-in-law, David Phillips and Ralph Sellers; and his nephew, Randy Sellers.
