NORTHPORT – Robert E. "Lige" Moore, age 95, of Northport, Ala., died July 5, 2017, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home with family friend, Mr. Bill Brewbaker, officiating. Burial will follow in Williamson Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leslie Jo Crabtree; father, John Robert Moore; and mother, Mattie Holley Moore. Survivors include his son, Dr. Rob Moore (Shara Thomason) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and grandchildren, Addison Taylor Moore, Braden Thomason Moore and Catherine Victoria Moore. Lige was born on November 9, 1921 in Northport, Alabama. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1939 and then attended The University of Alabama until he enlisted to serve in the United States Army Air Force during which time he received one Silver Star and four Bronze Stars. He returned and completed his Aeronautical Engineering degree at The University of Alabama. In order to care for his widowed mother; he chose to remain in Northport where he was employed by and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. After his retirement from the postal service, he remained active by making deliveries for a dental lab. He married Jo on April 15, 1965 and they welcomed Rob into the world in April, 1966; he was the apple of their eye. They served the Lord together at Northport Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed many hobbies which included photography, woodworking, and surprisingly enough he taught himself computer skills very late in life. More important than all of the above, Lige was a man of God, a caring son, a loving husband, a supportive father, a doting grandfather and a faithful friend. He was kind, he was sweet and he never spoke an ill word of anyone. It is difficult to sum up a man's life in a paragraph or two so we will simply say his was a life well lived. He will be greatly missed but we have joy and hope in knowing that he is with our Lord in heaven and we know we will see him again. Pallbearers will be Addison Moore, Braden Moore, Rick Thomason, Bob Lewis, Sam Crabtree and Frank Mitchum. Honorary pallbearers are John Hinton, Tom Sutton, Ray Keeton and Leroy Jones. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Douglas Reynolds, Northriver Village Assisted Living and Hospice of West Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donation be made to Hospice of West Alabama
