

NORTHPORT | Ruth Sullivan West, age 94, of Northport, died Sept. 9, 2014, at Heritage Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Sunset Funeral Home with Jerry Croft officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Greene West; parents, Manly and Etta Sullivan; brothers, J.J., Andrew, Horace, and Paul Sullivan; and sister, Pauline Evans.
Survivors include her daughter, Tricia Thrasher; sons, Joe West and Gary West (Kim); grandchildren, Greg Thrasher (Desarge), Scott Thrasher (Melissa), Blake Thrasher (Jennifer), Manley West, Jessie Hawkins (Matthew), and Elizabeth Dunne (Steven); and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. West was a native of Tuscaloosa County from the Echola Community. She worked at the FBI in Washington, D.C. during World War II. After the war, she returned to Northport and was a devoted wife and mother. She worked at Druid City Hospital and was a volunteer at the Northport Medical Center. She was a member of Northport Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Greg Thrasher, Scott Thrasher, Blake Thrasher, Matthew Hawkins, Manley West, and Steven Dunne.
Honorary pallbearers are the staff at Heritage Nursing Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Northport Methodist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
