
Shelby Rice Evans, age 72, of Northport, died April 22, 2011, at Glen Haven Health & Rehabilitation. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John C. Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Veron D. and Lillie Corine Rice, and her son, Rodney Neal Evans.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Neal Evans; her daughter, Linda Jane Evans; her son, Michael Wade Evans (Toni); her twin sister, Barbara Rice Ponds (Pat); her brothers, James Owen Rice (Doris), Hollis Warren Rice, Robert Milton Rice (Marie), and Bobby Gerald Rice (Kathie); her grandson, Ashton Colt Evans; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
Shelby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her passion was spending time with her family and friends, and her home was always open to everyone. She was known for her compassion and tender heart, as well as her cheerful and playful spirit. Shelby proclaimed Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She attended Carrolls Creek Baptist Church in Northport for many years. She then became a faithful member of Northport Church of God and loved serving in various ministries in the church for 36 years. She enjoyed gospel music, singing, and gardening. She will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Colt Evans, Pat Ponds, Jeff Given, Gordon Evans, Tony Evans, and Justin Evans.
Honorary pallbearers are Dale Evans, Dovie Akins, Jewell Dockery, Tommy Traywick, Alacare Home Health and Hospice of Tuscaloosa, Northport Church of God, and Carrolls Creek Baptist Church.
