Stella M. Byars

Stella M. Byars, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, died Aug. 22, 2010, at home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Gary Bonner and Ransey O'Daniel officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson J. Byars; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Cain; her brother, Frank Cain; and her daughter-in-law, Janie Sue Byars.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Spell; her son, Nelson J. Byars, Jr.; her sisters, Nadine Cain, Dorothy Thomas (Phil), and Ruby Hughes (Tommy); her brother, James E. Cain; her grandchildren, Joseph Taapken (Brandy) and Tonya Dixon; and four great-grandchildren.

She was involved many years in the Elks Lodge of Tuscaloosa, Moose Lodge, and VFW. She was such a kind and loving person who loved her flowers and gardens and had kind words for everyone. Words cannot express how loving and kind she was. She was the most wonderful mother and grandmother that could be.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Hughes, William Franklin, Phil Thomas, James Byars, Jimmy Lollar, and Bill Archie.

Honorary pallbearers are DCH Cancer Center doctors and nurses, Dr. Dwayne Tooson, First Wesleyan Academy, Sealy, Bryant Drywall, Hospice of West Alabama, Jack and Dene Tunnell, Karen Smith, Donna Rhea, Myrtis and Robert Hale, Evelyn Cockrell, and Deanna and David Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
