From the family of Billy Campbell: Thank you all so much for your phone calls, cards, food and words of encouragement during this difficult time. Our hearts are heavy but our smiles are big at the memories that Daddy left us with. He was a loving man to his family and friends and he will truly be missed by many.

I haven't seen Billy in fifty years, but we grew up together and I considered him a friend. I'm certain he was good man, a solid man and loved his family, since he was already a man of high character the years we spent together. I'm sorry for your loss. Bill McCrory

I was saddened to learn of Billy's death when reading the paper one morning this week. Immediately I had a 'flashback' to the days where I grew up (in Springbrook) and to the path I walked to Northington Elementary ...and then to ball games for my brothers: Buddy, Chalie, and David...so I often walked by the Campbell home. Though Billy and Buddy were older (not by much!), I remember them with fondness.

After I married, I moved away from Tuscaloosa for forty years; recently - well, six years ago now, my husband and I returned in retirement to live in Tuscaloosa because our only son and his wife and family live here. Jeanne, our son married Jean Hamiter's son! 

What I remember most about Billy is his smile, his kind eyes, and his winsome personality. Always, he was friendly and willing to do anything anyone needed.  Obviously that trait carried over into his future. 

How I will pray for you and your family in this adjustment to life without Billy.  Death changes everything - but our hope is that God, who loves us more than we can even begin to understand, will bring comfort to your hearts and healing through all the precious memories you have with him.

So sorry about the loss of Billy.  He was such an inspiration for my son Joey.  He took Joey under his wing and taught him a lot about playing poole.  They still stayed in touch.  We are very saddened by his loss.  He was loved very dearly by my whole family, especially Joey.

Billy will be missed. But you have great memories to hold onto. I saw the love he had for you all. Especialy with his children and grand children. Not many men would load up all the kids and take them to his favorite place the beach. What a memory to have. Jeanne he loved you the most of all. Billy was a very special friend. He was always there to help in your time of need, always thinking of others. His smile, laugh and kind words of encouragement will be greatly missed. I am sure that everyone who came in contact with Billy will always remember his tender and caring personality and their lives were touched by him in some special way.  All of Billy's friends have been blessed to have had Billy as a friend. Billy had a deep love for his family and was very proud of them. My prayers are with the family.
