Elliott Oliver was like my big brother. I had no brothers of my own and I idolized Elliott he was the coolest guy I ever knew. My only regret was I didn’t get to know him as an adult once I turned 18 I went into this service and traveled. Eventually move into San Diego. 

Living in another city, we spoke a few times, but it wasn’t the same. But what I know he hadn’t changed a bit. He was the same guardian big brother I’d grown up with it. Turns out our families grew up together in New Orleans. 

They created quite a unique experience and sheltered us in that New Orleans community they created here in the Los Angeles and Southern California area.

I miss Elliott often he was one of the good guys!

My 3rd cousin Elliott. Always full of love and happiness. Good to his family, a blessing to his friends. I'll know I'll see him again.

Elliott is still very much missed by me he was so honest and none judgmental. He had such a Joyful laugh one could not mistake for any other. 
His memory from when we were kids through adulthood will live on in forever.

Will always remember beloved 3rd cousin  Elliot. Especially his big huge laugh and his love for family.  I sang for him, Biblical passages set to music by his  devoted wife Leia. Gone but never forgotten. I see him gathered around that giant pot of gumbo in the sky with his grandmother, his mother and his brother waiting to welcome us all.

Loved my cousin Elliott and will always think of him. He and his beloved brother are together keeping an eye on us all. Love to the family always. Proud to have sung for both of them.

When writing his obituary, in my grief and haste, I inadvertently left out one of Elliott's dear grandchildren, Dominic Oliver.  Here he is with his dad, the late Shawn Oliver, Elliott's son.  Now he is a handsome and very smart young man.

A man that always left me with memories and intelligent thoughts and will be held deep in my heart for the rest of my life may be as wise and as sweet and willing to share my knowledge as he was

Even thou my son is not listed as your grandson wen he is carrying your last name and was name after your only daughter, was the only son of Shawn but we will always remembered you as his papa .i remembered wen u and Shawn drove all the way from California to surprised him after school and till this day he will always cherish that moment. My son was shawns heart and everyone that knows that knows how much he love his son .happy heavenly bday .im sure you and Shawn is kicking today .continue to watch over us .🙏💕💕

There are so many wonderful memories. We all had so  much fun on game nights. He always made sure we  all understood the game and always showed great  patience if someone did not understand. He and I shared a love of trains and he was a great lover of music. But my most favorite of all is when he came to my home and m came up the stairs as my overly shy daughter came down. He grabbed her in a big bear hug  and asked , “How are you sweetheart?”  She got a smile on her face and has always remembered that.  That is what Elliot was a big lovable teddy bear. He always made everyone feel good. I miss him very much. 

When I would ever see Eliot he would always greet me saying, "How are you my friend?" My fondess memory was we were all over at Keith and Dayle's house, think Keith was having to go overseases again and everyone came out. So I cooked some red beans and rice to surprise Keith. So we were sitting on the patio and Elliot was eating and enjoying his red beans and rice.  He told me, "Aubry these are some good red beans! The next time you make them drop them off at my house, boy you can make some red beans." Love you, Elliot Happy Birthday

I knew Elliott from church.  He was always warm and kind.  He knew I had a kidney transplant so we talked a number of times about how life changes when you finally get that new kidney. Even with all he was going through, he was upbeat and happy. I truly admired his strength. Rest In Peace Elliott.

Elliott served in the army during the Viet Nam era.   He was a communications specialist.  Luckily he was stationed in Hawaii, which he loved.  It was there he learned to body surf and acquired a tan, which he never lost. He served his last term at Fort Hood in Texas where his son Shawn was born. 
From his youth, Elliott loved the Lord.  He was a Catholic altar boy as a youngster and a deacon at Heart of the Valley Church after he married.  He taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was an active and treasured church member until his health began to fail.  He’d often tell stories of outings with his favorite priests, and kept in touch with Bishop Michael Driscoll until his death in Idaho two years ago.  
Elliott began to undergo dialysis twelve years ago when his kidneys failed, but he still managed to enjoy life, going on trips and excursions with Lea and enjoying retirement. But in this last year his body began to weaken drastically causing him pain, frequent hospitalizations and daily visits from a nurse.  By December he was too weak to even sit up, and in February his heart stopped.  Although emergency measures restored his heartbeat, he never recovered from the coma.  He left this life to be in the company of the Lord on February 20. 
Elliott is survived by his wife Lea, his mother, Dolores, his sisters Tracy and Dayle, his brother Aaron, his daughter and son in love Rachel and Jason, granddaughter Alondra, nieces Kolby,  Kelsey and Jennifer, nephews Keith, Joshua, Jerrod, Taylor, Tyler and Aaron and many, many loving cousins.  His smiles, generosity and loving kindness will be sorely missed.


Elliott Joseph Oliver, born September 29, 1952   was the eldest child of Dolores and Elliott Joseph Oliver Sr. He passed away after a long illness on February 20, 2020.  
He was sweet, kind, generous, easy-going, loving, sentimental and playful.  Friends and co-workers loved him and looked up to him.
Elliott loved his family very much, and his favorite times were when he was surrounded by them. His love for his wife, Lea was evident to all, and an inspiration to many.  Nieces and nephews fondly called him “Uncle Dunkle”.  
Elliott was a loving, hands-on father to his two natural children, Dominique and Shawn, and to Jason and Rachel whom he loved as his own.  Granddaughter Alondra was the apple of his eye. Sadly, his beautiful daughter Dominique succumbed to cancer at the age of seventeen and he later lost his son Shawn at the age of thirty-four.  It broke his heart to lose these children, but it did not keep him from being a wonderful, loving dad and grandpa to Rachel, Jason and Alondra.
Boy, did Elliott love sports.  When he was younger he played in badminton tournaments, body surfed, played paddle tennis and coached basketball.  Elliott loved basketball passionately, especially the Lakers.  But he would watch whatever basketball game he could find on television when the Lakers were not playing.  He would even watch re-runs of basketball games.  He also followed baseball and football avidly during their seasons. A favorite outing would be to go with a friend or family members to a Lakers or Dodger game.
Inspired by his grandpa Aurelian, who was a porter on the Sunset Limited, Elliott was a great lover of trains, a love shared with his late son, Shawn.  They loved live steamers, model trains and riding on the train. 


I've known Elliott all my life.  Our parents grew up together and raised us with all their friends that left New Orleans during the Great Migration. Since I didn't have but sisters (3) Elliott fill the role for me as a big brother (as Ed Lewis did too.)

Going to Dayle and Elloitt's house, (don't know how or why Dayle got top billing) was like Christmas. Elliott was the coolest guy I knew.  He had the best toys and was generous in sharing. 

I remember:
- His first car - 71 Chevy Vega - not a cool car but Elliott made it cool. 
- Train set in the garage (8 gauge) Lionel?
- Taught me to swear "Crud". I still say it today
- My Dad called him the "Face"
- Mt. Carmel & his brown letterman's sweater. He lettered his freshman year as manager for the Varsity football team allowing him to be a four year letterman. 
- He and Ed were protection my freshman year, they graduated and my sophomore year wasn't the same. 
- Elliott was cool and my big brother, later when Aaron arrived, I had a little brother. Life was good. Dayle and I were in the same class at St Anselm's and she mostly tolerated me like an annoying little brother, despite being the same age. 

I cherish that time in my life with these special people. Our parents and others that left New Orleans in the 50s created a safe place for all of us to grow.  


Hello, I'm David DiPadua.  Elliott was a year behind me in high school, Mt Carmel.  But we hung around the same group, Steve  Simeon, Paul Duplessis, Ed Lewis.  I can remember hanging out in the patio at his parents, playing air guitar and drums to the radio and records. Also had many teen parties there. One such party,
not giving away who brought the booze, I had one too many and walked right thru Mr. Olivers pain glass window!  After he took to the house and checked me over, of course the party was over.
I eventually lost track of Elliott, seems that was my loss, but I was 
inspired and lifted at his service.

Elliott and I have been friends since I was 10 years old he was always so funny and kind. I remember playing outside at Aunt Fannie’s house long into the dark. Then when we got older and my mom would not let me go out yet Elliott would step in and say “oh she can come with me to the game I’ll keep her safe” she trusted Elliott and I’d have ball. My heart is heavy knowing he is no longer in this world with me. Thank  God for the memories and the good fortune to have known Elliott Love ❤️ him always  

My dear 3rd cousin Elliott!! Always cheerful, loving and full of fun. You will be truly missed by all of us who loved you.  As Leah said you were "so loveable and kind", qualities we all aspire to emulate. RIP and we'll see you again around that big gumbo pot in the sky.
