Gene was in my life as a father-figure from around the time that I was in early elementary school to the time I was in my first year of college.  "Smitty" wasn't  exaggerating.  Gene was impossibly fearless.  He was not a man to be trifled with.  And if you needed someone in your corner, he was the one, unconditionally.  I can testify first-hand that he was in great pain that he wasn't able to  be in his son's life in the years that his son was growing up in Greece.  I remember Colleen, her little sister, Jerry, and her uncle by the same name.  Uncle Jerry was kind to me, and he was phenomenally good with a BBQ, as was Gene.  I am happy to know that Gene was able to connect and make good with his son.  That's a redeeming, gratifying story.  Rest in Peace.

Gene was my Blood Brother. We went thru everything together. Gene was the toughest dude I knew. My heart goes out to Gene's family. I never got to meet his son. I met his Uncle years ago. He took good care of his Uncle. I met Gene in 1961. My number is 480-710-5911 if Sean could take the time to call. God Bless his family. He was the best friend any one could have.

My goodness Sean what a tribute. Your parents look like a movie star couple how handsome your dad was and your mom was just gorgeous. Your father was such a kick as an older man, your photos are precious and wonderful... What a HANDSOME FAMILY.  You can see the love among all of you, and the tremendous loss. May God comfort you in this time of sorrow. My heartfelt condolences to your family.
