Former Norwich City Council President, Bonnie Hong, passed away after a lengthy battle from complications after heart surgery. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Cornelio “Ben” Hong, daughters, Wynn Sloan and Robin Hong, and grandson, Xander Sloan. Bonnie was a nurse who previously worked at the Backus Hospital, Hartford Hospital, and Yale New Haven Hospital. She helped her husband establish his medical practice which was a cornerstone in the community for over 30 years. From 1987 - 1991, Bonnie was elected to the Norwich City Council and served as City Council President for a term. Her life after politics was filled with numerous community volunteer service activities. She was a member of the Norwich Rotary Club and served as the Club President. Bonnie was active in raising funds for winter coats for Norwich children, dictionaries for school children, and obtaining official recognition for Norwich as an International City of Peace. Her wake will be held Wednesday, February 17, from 2-4pm at Church & Allen funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held February 18 at 1pm at Sacred Heart Church in Norwichtown.
