Deborah, also known fondly as Debbie, ‘D’, Jazzy, Jazz, DJ, and Auntie Debbie, was born August 30, 1961 in Norwich, CT. Debbie lived in Oakdale, CT for most of her childhood where she was an active member of the Oakdale Fire Dept, volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician. Debbie worked as an Officer for the Conn. Dept. of Correction for 16 years prior to an injury which led to her medical retirement.
As one fellow Officer stated, “How could anyone ever forget her larger than life presence. She would tell you all about yourself, then send you off with a slice of lasagna! She was a mentor to many and did it "old style" getting the work done so there was plenty of time for a chat!”
Debbie was faced with several obstacles throughout her life and she had the courage to confront many of the demons left in the wake of these traumatic experiences. Throughout it all, Debbie somehow kept a positive outlook and was constantly giving to others; sometimes giving too much.
Debbie was an active volunteer in the community. During her tenure within Corrections, she coordinated the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the CT Special Olympics, raising funds for them each year. When she resided in Groton, CT she was an active member of Groton Ambulance; holding the position of President.
Debbie valued family and tradition and was looking forward to sharing Easter at the nursing facility where her mother resides. She planned to celebrate with her brothers Chris and Joe and their extended family as well. No doubt, Debbie would have made sure there was plenty of food for all and fed a few staff members along the way.
A celebration of Debbie’s life will take place life at the Oakdale Fire Department, 444 Chapel Hill Rd. in Oakdale, CT on Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 2 to 6 p.m. Services are provided by Church and Allen Funeral Home.
