Dorothy Ann Almeida, age 88, of Uncasville, passed away at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. She was born on July 10, 1933 to the late Elaine (Sturgis) Ashburn. She was married to Norman Almeida on September 4, 1954 and lived in Uncasville since the 1960’s.
Dorothy leaves behind a son Glen Almeida of Uncasville, a sister Joan Gessner and a sister Shirley McGrath both of Uncasville. She is predeceased by sisters, Ruth Overbay and Ginny Romano.
Dorothy was employed as a dental assistant for the late Dr. Lonergan of New London for 10 years. She was an avid athlete in the New London area, playing for WMI, and earned the Athlete of the Year award in both 1951 and 1952. She excelled in softball and basketball and also enjoyed bowling and golf.
