

Norwich- Eugene Herbert Frank, 86 passed away from mesothelioma on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at his home in Norwich, CT. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 22, 1926 to the late Milton and Pauline (Katz) Frank.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence (Solomon) Frank. He is also survived by his daughter, Randi Frank and husband Brian Funk as well as his son Paul Frank and wife Nancy Colageo and three grandchildren, Rebecca and Allison Frank and Brandon Funk. Eugene is also survived by his brother, Robert Frank and sister, Natalie Levenson.
Eugene served in the Navy in the Philippines in World War II. Following his service, he went to Brooklyn College on the G.I. Bill and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. Eugene completed his Master’s Degree in Chemistry from University of Connecticut while at EB.
Eugene started his career as a chemist at the John Street Refinery in New York, and later at National Lead in Hamilton, Ohio. He then began work at Electric Boat in Groton, CT. 37 years later; he retired as the Chief of Laboratory Services.
Eugene and his wife Florence enjoyed their retirement by travelling around the world, usually with Elder hostel. They volunteered with RSVP and at many of the theaters in Southeast Connecticut. Eugene was very proud that he and Florence won the Merit Award from the Board of Trustees of the community and Technical colleges in 2002 for establishing the “Adventures in Lifetime Learning” at the Three Rivers Community College. “Adventures in Lifetime Learning” is an educational program for seniors with informal classes and interesting field trips. Eugene was also a member at Temple Emmanuel for 48 years.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 3pm at the Church and Allen Funeral Home in Norwich. Burial will follow in Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery #3 in Preston.
