

George Joseph Synott, Jr. passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at his son Jason’s Home. He was born on September 1, 1931, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late George Joseph, Sr and Elda (Yenkelun) Synott.
In 1940, they moved from Waterbury to Uncasville, CT. George attended Mohegan school, a one-room schoolhouse where he finished 3rd grade then went to Uncasville school for grades 4-8. From September 1945 to June 1949, he attended and graduated from Norwich Free Academy High School.
He joined the Navy on August 23, 1950, and in 1951 went to Submarine school in Groton, CT where he graduated with class #80. He earned the grade of 3rd Class Petty Officer (SS), and he served aboard the Submarine USS Senate SS 408 stationed in Key West, Florida. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Connecticut veteran’s wartime service medal and having served during the Korean War he was awarded the Ambassador for peace medal by the republic of Korea. He was honorably discharged on June 22, 1954.
In October of 1954 George began working for Connecticut Light and Power Company at the Montville Generating Plant as an Electrician for the next 33 years, retiring in February 1987.
He married Stasia Rodowicz on October 6, 1956, at the Divine Providence Church in Norwich, CT. (“Best thing I ever did!”). Stasia passed away June 23, 2024, after 67 years of marriage.
When George was 11 years old in 1942, he found a small rowboat in the Thames River that he used to catch eels, snapper blues, tom Cod and blue crabs for food during the war years. He had many different boats in the next 50 years. He and his wife Stasia spent much of their life ocean fishing together. And after retiring in 1987 they started taking dancing lessons, and they spend the next 30 years dancing together, most weekends up past their 50th wedding anniversary party.
While his grandchildren were growing up, George and Stasia enjoyed watching them play softball, baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and rugby.
He is survived by his sons and daughter in laws, Jason and Debbie Synott, James and Christine Synott, his granddaughter, Jessica (Matthew) Chalecki and his grandsons, Joshua Synott, Jonathan Synott and Jaxson Synott and a great-grandson, Camden Chalecki. His special niece, Deborah Bernard.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 10-11am followed by a funeral service at 11am at Church & Allen Funeral Home. 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, CT. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, with full military honors.
