

She was born in Norwich on March 19, 1942 to the late Ward and Winifred (Whiting) Sherman. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Carter.
Laurel worked as a secretary for the Norwich Fire Department and Catholic Charities in Norwich until retiring. She had a green thumb and loved growing plants of all types, collecting rocks and loved travel, especially to Key West, Florida. She was a wonderful cook, artistically talented with her oil paintings, drawings and crochet techniques. She enjoyed watching movies from her personal collection especially when accompanied by family. Laurel’s greatest joy in life was her family and spending time together with them, no matter the occasion.
She is survived by a son; Shawn (Sherry) Carter, daughters; Holly Carter, Yvette Carter, Shara Carter-Sajkowicz, and Serina Carter, a sister; Sandra Sherman-Pickler, seventeen grandchildren to include; Amber Wadja, Krystin and Krystal Rankin, Lance Sajkowicz, Lisa Pabon, Jessica Williams, Christina Douchette, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by one daughter; Christy Carter.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Laurel’s memory may be made to the cat shelter of the donor’s choice.
Services are private at the convenience of the family. The Labenski Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements.
