

She was born in Norwich, Connecticut on October 30th, 1922 to the late Henry and Alice (Phillips) Metcalf. On October 11th, 1940 she married William Buckley Burns, the love of her life, at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick in Norwich. He died on February 19th, 1980.
A woman of smiles, Lucille was kind and polite to all she met. She worked at the Norwich Police Department as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement. Her love of people and Norwich led her to become a founder of the Rose Arts Festival. She enjoyed spending time at Seaside Beach Club and volunteering at Backus Hospital.
The love and devotion to her husband, 3 daughters, 11 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren were unconditional. That love and devotion was reflected on the faces of her family at the mere mention of her name or sound of her voice.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet Nelson and husband Robert of Mystic, Kathleen Disch and husband Peter of Norwich, son-in-law, Robert Landers of Glastonbury, grandchildren, Dorie Landers, Maribeth (Robert) Bridgeford, Mark (Amy) Landers, Heather (Patrick) Sullivan, Amanda (Brendan) Cummings, Lindsay (Jaime) Villàran, Robert Nelson, John Matthew Blair, Courtney (Ransom) Langford, Ellis (Roshanak) Disch, Peter (Nicollette) Disch, Jr., great-grandchildren, Ryan Landers, Madison Landers, Mason Bridgeford, Maya Bridgeford, Marlee Bridgeford, Chloe Landers, Mackenzie Landers, Kelsey Landers, Andrew Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, Caleigh Sullivan, Quinn Cummings, Cole Cummings, Trey Cummings, Brody Cummings, Isabela Villàran, Katerina Villàran, Makena Villàran, John Blair, Rose Blair, Caroline Langford, William Langford, Kathleen Langford, Emma-Kate Disch, Oliver Disch, Lily Disch, Lucy Disch, Reilly Disch, Peter Disch, III, and several nieces. In addition to her husband, Lucille was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Patricia Burns Landers, cherished grandson, William Burns Landers, and dear sisters, Phyllis Lancaster and Lois Eckert.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 12 to 1 pm at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, CT with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm at The Cathedral of St. Patrick, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT. Burial to immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 815 Boswell Avenue, Norwich, CT.
