Robert William Haggerty Sr. of Norwich, CT died peacefully on September 30th, 2022, at the age of 86. Robert (Bob) was born May 26th, 1936 in Woonsocket, RI to Herman and Theresa Almon Haggerty. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict, was stationed primarily in White Sands, NM during that time, and upon completion of his honorable service with the Army, he returned home to Rhode Island, married Carmel Palardy in April of 1958 and moved to CT where they raised 5 boys, Patrick, Sean, Kenneth, Christopher, and Robert (Jr). Bob took great joy in spending time with is 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild whenever he had the opportunity.
After working many years at Electric Boat (General Dynamics), Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and Waltsco Steel, Bob retired to his home and Norwich. He was proud of his contribution and work on the navigation systems for the Nautilus (first nuclear submarine) and the early DSRV. He was an avid chess player, loved fishing, trains, classic cars, road trips, history, trivia, and was most at home on a beach or near the ocean.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, his brother Dennis, wife Carmel and son Kenneth.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, October 22nd from 10am – 12pm at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave. Norwich, CT with a funeral home service starting at 12pm followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery 815 Boswell Ave. Norwich, CT.
