Virginia Hackney Theresa DeBarros Thompson of Canterbury, CT went to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday April 3, 2018 at her home.
Virginia, affectionately known as "Gram", was born in Norwich, CT on February 22, 1930 to the late Carrie Randall and Felix DeBarros Sr.
Virginia loved playing bingo, family picnics, and watching Judge Judy and Jerry Springer. She was also a proud Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation Elder.
Virginia attended the Norwich Public Schools and worked at Worman's Shoes and the Norwich Iron and Metal Company. On February 19, 1949 she married Charles Thompson who predeceased her. Her beloved daughter, Anita D. Manns, her sisters Clara DeBarros Jenkins Amado, Mary Braxton, and Gladys DeBarros, and her brothers Fredrick DeBarros, and Joseph DeBarros, also predeceased her.
Virginia made her home with her granddaughter in Canterbury, CT Virginia's three grandchildren Todd Thompson, Gina Sherman and Michele Tillman were the light of her life, as well as a great granddaughter Marena Dees who helped care for her while Gina was at work.
Virginia leaves to cherish her memory a brother, Felix DeBarros Jr. of Taftville, CT and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous family and friends.
A Calling Hour will be held on Tuesday, April 10th from 10am - 11am with Funeral Services at 11am all at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT. Interment will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery, 184 Salem Tnpk., Norwich, CT.
