Bill was born in Groton and called Connecticut his home for most of his life. He ran his own home inspection business before retiring, but even in retirement, Bill never stopped moving. Whether it was tackling a DIY home improvement project, growing vegetables in his garden, or trying a new recipe from scratch, he loved staying busy and figuring things out as he went. He was always creating, always learning. Known for working with his hands, he valued independence and enjoyed the challenge of learning how to do things himself.
Bill will be remembered as generous, smart, funny, and unapologetically himself. He was the person everyone could count on when they needed a hand or an answer. He had a laid-back sense of humor and a quirky way of doing things that somehow always worked - and often made for the best kind of stories afterward. He didn't need much to be happy and found real joy in a simple, self-made life.
Bill is survived by his children, Brian Hoffner and his wife, Renee, and Julia Hoffner; his four sisters, Barbara Hoffner, Cheryl Hoffner and her lifelong partner Tom Suchocki, Val Brehler and her husband Mike, and Tricia Grant; as well as his loving girlfriend, Margret. He also leaves behind one grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William Hoffner Sr. and Patricia Perkins.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday August 17th from 12 - 4pm at the Norwich VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to remember Bill by sharing your favorite memory or story- especially the ones that made you laugh.
