Born in Norwich on May 24,1931, Doris was the daughter of Ransom and Evelena (Shaw) Champlin. She graduated from Norwich High School as Salutatorian in the Class of 1949. On July 23, 1949, she married George H. Follett and they enjoyed 55 years of a beautiful marriage. They were blessed with two sons David and John.
Doris was always happiest when she was spending time with her family or working outdoors. Doris’ family was her pride and joy. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker, who always put others’ needs before her own. Her greatest pleasure was taking care of her family, and supporting them in all of their activities. She enjoyed attending her sons’ and grandsons’ various sporting events, concerts and celebrations.
Doris loved routine, she began every day enjoying a steaming cup of black coffee at her kitchen counter with a newspaper or ledger in hand before beginning her daily tasks. As a lover of animals, Doris was always ready with treats for the various family and neighborhood dogs and cats and had an infinite amount of pats and scratches for them.
Doris was extremely organized and efficient and thrived on being busy and productive. She dedicated several years as an office manager for both Christman Motor Sales and Nearing Dodge while efficiently managing her family and home. Never one to sit idle, Doris could be found outside working during all four seasons. Whether she was shoveling her walks, mowing her lawns, “up at the farm,” or tending her gardens, her organization, drive, and dedication always showed through her accomplishments. With George at her side, she always had projects in progress. Together they remodeled and maintained their Norwich home as well as designed and built their camp on Oneida Lake. They were a talented team that complemented each other in all aspects of their lives.
Doris is survived by her son John C. Follett and his wife Sharon, daughter-in-law Jennifer Follett, and grandsons: Stephen C. and his wife Jodi, Scott C., Nicholas S., and Lucas J. Follett, and great-grandchildren: Davey and Alice Follett.
Funeral services for Doris will be held on Thursday, March 3rd from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with her Memorial Service immediately following. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date.
